Loco-Motion: The Renegade Regiment continues its tradition of innovation with this year's production of Loco-motion featuring the music of Cowboy Troy. This year's high energy show blends traditional marching music with a country and hip-hop flair. The production combines musical inspiration from such diverse sources as Rodgers and Hammerstein's musical "Oklahoma!" and Cowboy Troy's country-rap song, "I Play Chicken with the Train".

2005 Bands of America Grand National Championship

Indianapolis, Indiana

Union's Score: 79.80

The Renegade Regiment returned to Band of Americaâs Grand National Championship! The last time that the Regiment competed in the national tournament was in 2002. Grand Nationals hosted over 90 of the best bands in America.

To be able to compete at such a high level in the national spotlight is an honor to the Union school district and the students. When Bruce Carter was appointed the Renegade Regiment director in August, one of his stated goals was to get Union back to competing on a national level. When Mr. Carter arrived, it looked unlikely that any spots were still available at Grand Nationals. However, after much hard work, Mr. Carter was able to secure a spot for the band to compete at Nationals.

Union competed in preliminaries at 7:30 A.M. on Friday, November 11. Although the audience was small at such an early hour, the Regiment provided an amazing performance. Union received a ã1ä (superior) rating by the judges for preliminary competition. This placed Union in the top 50% of all the 90+ bands who competed. Union just missed the cut to qualify for semi-finals competition.

Based on all the changes over the past year and the short time Union had to develop a show, Unionâs performance was amazing this year. The students achieved excellence and made everyone at Union proud of their accomplishments.

Congratulations to the Staff and Students of the Renegade Regiment!
