Renegade Review 2005 Report

On October 8 the Union Renegade Regiment hosted the 23rd annual Renegade Review marching contest. Perfect weather combined with an outstanding entry of competitive bands to provide spectators one of the most entertaining and competitive contests in event history. The 2005 event welcomed 3000 band members and staff in addition to the patrons of these schools and other spectators.

The excellent entry included 23 of the finest marching bands spanning all classes (A through 6A) of competition. In addition to many fine Oklahoma bands, our spectators and visitors were treated to some of the finest high school marching programs from Kansas, Missouri, and Illinois. All competitive bands competed in preliminary competition during the morning and afternoon, with the top 12 bands advancing to the evening’s finals competition. In addition to the competitors, Union’s Renegade Regiment and the Pride of Broken Arrow bands performed exhibition programs.

The Pride of Owasso defended its 2004 Grand Champion title with a repeat victory in finals competition with its exciting performance of “Fowl Play”. Owasso also captured caption awards for High Music, High Visual, and High General Effect. First runner-up in finals competition was the Golden Regiment from Blue Springs, MO with its performance of “Passion and Power – The Spirit of the Matador”. The Red and Silver Brigade of Blue Valley West High School in Overland Park, KS earned the second runner-up award for its performance of “GRAINGER: Past & Present”.

We look forward to seeing these great bands and their 2006 programs at the 24th annual Renegade Review.

If you were unable to attend the 2005 Renegade Review we encourage you to make it to the 2006 event. You will be treated to some of the best high school marching programs in the region.
